After the tour, the party spills into the bar.
"Now," Kai says, "I'm thinking we should call the ship something different while it's ours... Our claim in this ship's lifetime, something that won't call as much attention to us, and something... Less ominous, perhaps, more heroic."
"I'd understand that... Just, keep some semblance or homage to it's proper title?"
"Like the um... Questing Spectre? Something Spectre, not that."
"Not the 'Looming Bitchboat?'" Lynn asks.

Mori swirls a glass around in her hand and looks thoughtful for a moment. "What about... the glorious specter?

"Not bad... Not bad..." After taking a sip from her glass, Mori reaches down to a pouch on her waist and pulls out a small spellbook. Flipping it open, she begins to channel a ritual to summon a Unseen Servant.

Everyone but Lynn notices the significance of this. Crystal moves over to look at Mori's book. "Wait... You're a wizard too?"

Keeping her concentration on the book, Mori responds with a slow and deliberate tone "No... Yes... Maybe? ...Let me finish."

"She suddenly developed tracing capabilities after finding the staff, Jasper explains, "Though she doesn't have the memorization skills or theoretical knowledge to do more than cast out of a book. Handy nonetheless."
Crystal frowns slightly.

Something with specter, eh? Mmm..." He hums in thought for a moment. "Brilliant Specter might work. Luminous Specter, maybe? Or... hm. Maybe something commemorating its return after being trapped with a bunch of dancing murlocs for so long. Specter's Reprise? Specter's Reprieve?"

"Solid concept, lacks as much of a ring though."
"Marglrbgh!" Phil says, apparently feeling the need to contribute.
"Hah, I vote for that one. Now does anyone mind if we break out the booze while we have this discussion?"

"Something fruity. Surprise me," Luc requests. "Now then, something with more ring to it, huh? I do like the idea of keeping specter in the name. What about... Specter's Salvation?" He thinks for a moment, then shakes his head. "Eh, sounds a bit too saintly. Specter's Respite? Radiant Specter?"

"I think it's 'Spectre' as a possessive that's awkward."
"Ah the good stuff... Hm what do we have left in the cabinet..." Roger rummages around and provides a few ideal drinks.
"I don't suppose you could put something creamy in a saucer?" Jasper asks, her tone both acknowledging the joke and being genuine.
"Ha! I can do that actually."
"The Rakish Spectre?" Lynn asks, mostly kidding.

And so, the group spent like 10 minutes discussing the name, finally agreeing upon something.
"A toast then," Kai says, raising his glass, "To us and the [TBD]!"
Glasses clink, and even Crystal decided to try a small glass of something.
"So, at this point I feel we should have more thorough introductions - where are we from, what brought us all to be here?"

Post by Mori Tue Jan 20, 2015 9:15 pm

Mori finishes her incantation, creating a unseen force of will bound to serve her every wish. Mori gives the eldritch servant a two word command "Back-rub" then leans back in her chair as her will gets to work rubbing her neck and upper shoulders. She lets out a few moans of satisfaction, mumbling something about being so tight and how that's a perfect spot just a bit harder now yes just like that... somewhere along the line her eyes closed and it takes a bit of effort to tear herself away from the massage to look at Kai and address him. "Yeah -mmhm- good idea. Luc or Trace, go first."

Tracy groans a bit. "Do I have too? Yes? Fine," she says with a bit of a joking tone. "I'm Tracy. My dad is a fairly well-to-do merchant over in Arcadia. I decided the life of a wealthy merchant wasn't for me, so I took off and have been travelling ever since. I got involved with the bards, learned some magic, found my kickass flaming rapier in the depths of a dangerous dungeon, and eventually wound up playing third wheel to these two. It's been fun."

"Never really liked the term third wheel," Luc remarks, taking a sip of his pina colada. "Last I checked, something with three points of contact is more stable than something with two. Can, y'know... stand up on its own."

He leans back in his chair, crossing one leg over the other. "Humm. Me, me, me... well ah, let's see here, not sure how much I have that's actually all that interesting. Mostly grew up in a sylvan hawk tribe along with Loire, caught onto shamanism pretty quickly..."

Luc then shrugs, then takes on a slightly more active tone. "Oh- and then there were the nearby cities dotting the area, I spent a good chunk of my free time visiting those. They have some really great food there if you know where to look. I can't quite cook up a salmon like old Vinnie from the Blue Gill could, but I can sure as hell come close. Think he used some exotic spice I could never get my hands on... ah, hey Roger! I meant to ask- we wouldn't happen to have any fresh ingredients on board, would we? I've been itching to try out that kitchen since you first mentioned it. If there was ever the time for a celebratory meal, I'd say it's now!" Luc declares with a grin.

After a brief pause, a look of mild realization crosses his face. "Oh, right, introductions. Anyhow," he continues, motioning to Mori with his drink. "Got lucky enough to run into Mori here out in the middle of nowhere, and decided I couldn't let such a respectable, upstanding individual go wandering about all on her lonesome. Year or two later, here we are. I think we... picked up some pet cat along the way at some point? Something like that?"

Scene F - Celebration of a New Beginning Empty Re: Scene F - Celebration of a New Beginning

Post by Mori Mon Jan 26, 2015 1:56 pm

Mori chuckles softly when Jasper corrects her batty friend. With a regretful sigh she rolls her shoulders and mentally commands the unseen servant to stop massaging her back, then turns to address the group.
"Guess that makes it my turn then. I was born in a far off place that I doubt most of you have heard off. It was this small archipelago somewhere off to the west that had banded together as one nation called Haven. It was a..." Mori stops for a moment as she starts remembering her old home, fond memories surfacing after being dormant for some time. "Interesting place. Some of the islands were laid back, perfect place to grow up and raise a family. Others were dens of intrigue and danger, with a casino on every corner and a brothel every block. There was a lot of seafaring between the islands and other local landmasses, so a lot of demands for crew. I made my trade as a navigator, and damn was I good at it. I knew the currents around those waters like the back of my hand, but what I didn't know what that one of the forests happened to be in close contact with the fey."

She pauses for a moment and takes a sip from her drink, letting the weight of her last word sink in over the silence before continuing. "So, one day I'm sailing along like normal. Avoiding some of the more rowdy sailors and making sure we don't crash against a sea reef when out of the blue a giant vortex opens up right in front of my ship and I had no time to get around it. Me, the crew and the entire ship fall through this hole in the world and end up in gods knows where. The fey... the fey was beautiful beyond words and as terrifying as hell itself." A look of fear washes on Mori's face as bad memories return to her, just as fresh as the day she experienced them. Her body starts to shake and everyone can see her breathing pick up momentarily, before slowly settling back down. "I don't want to talk about what happened in the fey. Lets just say that I found another hole in the world and fell out of that one. I landed on my ass near Luc and, being a traditional by the books gentleman who always treats a lady right, he started to accompany me around the world as we got into adventurers and made a lot of bad decisions involving monster filled caves. Like he said, Jasper found us shortly after and eventually we picked up the pet cat in some bar after she tried to sleep with me, Luc and this dhampir chick. And... that leaves us where we are now. In a boat, with a skeleton, heading towards a city of magic."

Everyone stares at Mori. Troy, Crystal and Kai all look as though they're stoping themselves from asking several questions.
"I've been to Haven actually," Roger says, "Probably explains why you know our legend so well."
"So... Where did you get your powers?"

"Well..." Mori says with a large sigh. "I got my powers from the staffF, which I found during my stint in the fey. It's how I got out actually."

As the group stares at her, questions clearly being painfully held back, she lets out a small giggle and says "Wow Jasper, your right. This is fun."

"Well, what about you Jasper?" Kai asks.
"Oh me? Well I was out for a stroll in the woods when I felt a disturbance in the aether. Sure enough, there was this human totally fucking around with it! So I started following her and her friends. That's why I'm adventuring at this point."
Kai sighs. "Fair enough. Lynn?"
Lynn crosses her arms. "Rather not think about home. Long story short, I wasn't willing to fight and die for my country. So, now I guess I'm going to die fighting for myself at some point but, whatever so long as it's on my own terms."

Scene F - Celebration of a New Beginning Empty Re: Scene F - Celebration of a New Beginning

Post by Author Fri Jan 30, 2015 4:48 am

"So you three," Jasper says, "It's your turn now."
"Alright, well..." Kai looks to Crystal and Troy.
"You're the dramatic one, you start," Troy says. He smirks and takes a drink,"I'll be here to correct you."
"Okay then. Crystal and I actually spent most of our lives raised by Troy's family. We were... eight and four years old when we were adopted, and Troy became like our big brother."
"My family were all clerics in Athens, my uncle a paladin. I wasn't forced to become a cleric, but it just seemed like the natural thing to do. Personally, I was more inclined to scholarly pursuits - history, linguistics, that sort of thing."
"I was the one who was always into adventure stories. Sooner or later I started to become a... 'Bad influence' on Troy."
Lynn snorts.
"My interest in adventure came from another direction than Kai, but it was his fault. I spent enough time researching distant things and places, but it still never really occurred to me to leave. It was... A hobby. But with Kai's talk of leaving I became more and more interested in actually going and seeing the world. And Crystal..." He motions toward her.
She no longer wore her hood up, and her long red hair spilled over her shoulders. She still didn't look perfectly relaxed around all the new people, but was acting less reclusive than the day prior. "I have an avid interest in wizardry. At... first I was enthralled by my mother's old wizardry notes. I... Began developing some talent for it on my own. Troy knew the libraries well enough to point me to more reading."
"So... You're a self taught wizard?" Jasper asks, raising an eyebrow.
"N-not entirely. Athens wasn't devoid of wizards..."
"Our librarian was a wizard," Troy said.
"Yes, he tutored me, but... I learn a lot from books. And it... It's what interests me, it's what I want to do."
"So, somewhere along the lines one of us stumbled upon the legend of Alexandria."
"I knew I wanted nothing more to go there."
"Troy and I both wanted to see the world."
"And I didn't want to separate from them. Even if we never found Alexandria, it was good enough reason for me to set out with them."
"So we headed for the horizon."
