Marcy walks into the back kitchen. It's... decently clean. Ish. For a dockside bar.

Its not hard to locate Luc, you don't come across many Batfolk wearing flowered shirts in this town.
"Hey Luc." Marcy says after spotting her traveling friend. "We have a dragon paying in diamonds that wants your best steak. I shit you not."

Sure enough, Marceline finds Luc in the kitchen, whistling a slow little tune to himself as he fries a fish over a skillet. Today, he's chosen a red shirt with a mix of white and yellow flowers, along with a worn pair of green shorts. Over that, a plain white apron is draped over his front, covering his otherwise-exposed chest from whatever foodstuffs might get on him.

As she bursts in and announces their newest customer, he pauses in squirting lemon juice over the fish, staring at the half-cooked meal in a few moments of silence. A smile creeps at the sides of his mouth as he continues squirting, perhaps just a teeny bit more eager to finish fixing up this current meal. "...is that so? I suppose he wouldn't be interested in two steaks instead?"

"I think its a she, but hell if I know. I'm not some wacko that fucks dragons."
Marcy takes a moment to lean against the wall and crosses her arms, not paying much attention to where her dress falls. Despite her best efforts, some food always gets stuck on her clothing when she comes back to Luc's kitchen so she stopped trying to avoid the food.
"We might be able to get some magical gear with this. Enough to book passage on a ship at least. If this dragon is our ticket out of here... why not go three?

"Three... three sounds good. Oh, and a complimentary side of chips. And some extra sauce on the side."
He gives a chuckle, preemptively pulling out a few spices from his spice rack.
"Three of the chef's finest steaks, coming right up. Should be ready in about, oh... 25 minutes. Ask the lovely lady what else she might want, hmm?"

Marcy gives Luc a friendly nod and starts to exit the kitchen.
"You're the best Luc."

"Ah, wait. How did she want that..."
When he speaks up, Luc realizes that Marcy has already left the kitchen, and that he is in fact talking to himself.
"...cooked?"

A black cat - Marcy's cat, who she calls "Charles" - Walks into the kitchen, hops upon on a table and stares at Luc.

Luc hits the order bell for the fish meal once it's ready to serve, and is about to place it on the table when Charles hops up. He stops with plate in hand, smile fading slightly at his guest.
"Hey now, off the table. We've been over this..."
...sort of. The thing barely ever seemed to acknowledge him, which was unnerving. Very unnerving. That thing simply wasn't natural, but it's not like he could hold it against the cat for simply being what it was.

Charles blinks and tilts his head. He walks off and down to the ground.
It was an odd mix - Charles often seemed to understand what people meant, but Luc's animal empathy wasn't a part of that, nor did Charles ever actually speak.

"Thanks," he says in a neutral tone before setting the plate down and returning to his cooking station. No need to let Charles ruin his mood, he had him some delicious steaks to cook! Medium-rare... that was a safe place to start, and his personal favorite with steaks. He'd aim for that, and just ask Marcy what their new customer wanted when she picked up the fish.

Marcy walks back into the kitchen, carefully avoiding stepping on Charles as she does so. Regenerating flesh doesn't make cat scratches any less painful.
"Hey Luc! I have three medium steaks for our lizard friend and a Mahi Mahi for her... Talking cat...

Luc rolls his eyes as he rubs some spices into the steak, wearing a slightly more enthusiastic version of his otherwise-sedate smile.
"All cats talk, Marcy. Ah... mostly."
He shoots a glance at Charles, then shakes his head.
"The problem is that no one listens. You telling me a certain someone finally got the wax out of her ears? Yellowtail for table five is ready, by the way."

"Hey, don't be mean to Charles. I'll never understand why you don't like him... Look at how adorable he is!"
Marcy takes a moment to crouch down and scratch Charles just behind the ears.
"And when I say it talks, I mean it's speaking human. Like any ol' Joe could understand it.
She picks up the yellowtail and starts to walk out again.
"Thought you might be interested in an animals speaking human. For once, there's something stranger then you in this bar."

Luc holds up his hands in a disarming manner, bowing his head slightly.
"Hey, I'm simply being honest. It's not that I hate the guy, he's just so... quiet. It's creepy. No offense,"
He directs his addendum at the furred culprit in question.
"Anyhow, medium steaks, mahi mahi, got it. I'll have them out in no time."
